6 Easy Steps To Super-Smooth Legs

Check out our shaving guide on how to get smooth legs. Every day can be a dress day this season!

As warmer days beckon, many of us look forward to liberating our legs from tights and trousers. But that also means preparing our limbs for the big reveal. Here’s our six-step guide on how to get – and keep – smooth legs that feel ready to bare.

1. Exfoliate your skin regularly – once or twice a week – using a body brush on dry skin before you shower, to slough away dead cells from the surface and reveal a healthy layer of radiant skin.

2. Use a moisturizing shower wash with warm water to soften the skin on your legs and prep it for shaving.

3. Find the right razor for you: there are lots of options out there and it’s largely a matter of personal preference which one you opt for. Choose between refillable razors with reusable handles and interchangeable cartridges, or disposable razors in multi-packs. The most important thing to remember is, don’t be tempted to use a razor designed for men’s coarse facial hair; the bigger blades are likely to lead to dry skin and painful razor burn. The women-specific Gillette-Venus range has been created for the bath or shower, with easy-grip handles that allow you to control movement across the curves of your body. Plus, most Venus razors have lubricating strips that ensure the blades glide gently over skin, helping to prevent nicks, cuts and irritation.

4. Turn off the shower and lather up your favorite shave gel, then spread over the skin. Gel helps to lubricate the skin and allows the razor to glide smoothly, which means you get a closer shave. Using a gel also helps you keep track of where you’ve shaved, ensuring you don’t end up with a long strip of missed hair on an otherwise-smooth leg! Some people shave up to the knee and others prefer to include the thigh – there’s no right or wrong. Do what feels right for you and your needs: if you have pale, downy hair, or you only wear longer skirts and dresses, you may not feel that it’s necessary to shave above the knee.

5. For longer-lasting smooth legs, start by shaving in the direction of hair growth to shorten the hairs, then go against the grain to finish off. Don’t be tempted to go over the same area again and again as this could irritate skin: new blades will do the job on thicker, longer hairs using just two ‘sweeps’. The beauty of Venus razors is that their handles are ergonomically designed, making maneuvering over all parts of the skin a breeze. Place your index finger on the finger rest and grip the handle firmly, holding the razor at an angle against your skin. Never press the razor against the skin, as you’re more likely to cut yourself this way; just let the blades do the work as they glide.

6. Rinse and pat skin dry – don’t rub, as this can irritate freshly shaven skin. Finally, apply a generous dollop of hydrating body cream or lotion to keep legs smooth. Hello radiant, super-smooth legs!
